UNCG provides an informative parent and family orientation program, designed to help both parents and families be equipped to support their UNCG student. Transfer and Adult SOAR is a required full-day program for students, with a choice of one of four days in August. The parent and family program runs concurrently with the student orientation program.
Do I need to make a reservation for the Parent/Family Program?
Yes. Guests of a UNCG student need to make reservations for SOAR. Please visit How to Make Your Reservationfor details!
Is there a fee to attend the Parent/Family SOAR program?
Yes. The fee is $25.00 per guest to attend the Transfer & Adult Parent/Family program.
Payment Policy
All Guest fees for SOAR are required in advance. Payments must be received in our office before your SOAR session. Mailed payments must be made with enough time allowed to reach our department atleast 2-3 days before your reserved SOAR session to allow time for processing. We encourage mailing payments atleast two weeks in advance. Any payments not received in our office by your SOAR session must be paid at check-in and a late fee may apply. We cannot accomodate payment by credit card at check-in.
Online credit card payments are preferred for guests and you may make those payments through the SOAR reservation system. However, checks and money orders are accepted, made payable to “UNCG Orientation & Family Programs”, and sent to:

How do I cancel my SOAR reservation?
Cancellation Policy
Please select your SOAR session carefully. If you must cancel your reservation completely, please log in to UNCGenie and cancel your reservation at least 5 business days prior to your session. We will not take cancellations over the phone. SOAR fees for the Parent/Family program will NOT be refunded if cancellations are not made through the reservation system and 5 business days prior to the session. After 5 business days, the SOAR session becomes inactive and no changes or cancellations can be made to that session. There are no refunds or waivers for the mandatory New Student Fee.What do my SOAR fees cover ?
The continental breakfast will be available to you in the EUC after checking-in.As you check-in for SOAR, we will give you a meal certificate, and that ticket can be used in the EUC Food Court, the Marketplace, Charlie’s, or in the Caf on campus during the course of the SOAR day.
You will also receive SOAR session materials, and free parking in the Walker Avenue Parking Deck
Where do I stay during SOAR?
UNCG’s Adult and Transfer program is a one day program, so housing is not provided.If you are arriving the day before, or staying the night of your SOAR session, please check out the following link for hotels in the area.
What am I going to be doing at SOAR?
While your student is learning the ropes of UNCG, you will be doing the same as well! You will:- Have an opportunity to talk with UNCG Business Services: Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Career Services, Student Affairs and more!
- Tour the campus, and sample residence hall rooms
- Have your questions answered about academics with a UNCG faculty member, and campus life with members of our Spartan Orientation Staff
- Learn about the history and traditions of UNCG through a slideshow presentation
