Transfer & Adult SOAR Program

When are the SOAR 2008 sessions for Transfer & Adult Students?

Transfer & Adult SOAR Dates:

Session 1 Sunday, August 17
Session 2 Monday, August 18
Session 3 Tuesday, August 19
Session 4 Wednesday, August 20

Is SOAR required ?

Yes! SOAR is a required program for all transfer and adult students coming to UNCG.

Transfer and Adult Student SOAR is offered to acclimate students coming from other institutions and first-time adult students to the unique culture and operations of UNCG. We offer a concurrent program for parents and families of students as well.

Using the recommendations of currently enrolled transfer and adult students, this program is designed specifically to meet your needs.

As you know, universities are complex organizations, and UNCG has its own policies, procedures, traditions and resources that are vital for every student to know in order to succeed. SOAR will provide a worthwhile introduction to these topics and will equip all participants with an understanding of UNCG’s expectations and support systems.

Preparation matters. SOAR will enhance your readiness to get a great start at UNCG and will introduce you to some of your peers in this new venture. We look forward to helping you prepare for success.

While non-attendance does not bring a penalty, all new transfer and adult students are responsible for the information covered at SOAR. You will be charged a mandatory new student fee for SOAR; we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to prepare for your UNCG experience.

What about my classes?

Transfer and adult students can particpated in Advising and Registration by Appointment (ARA) between April 21 and August 8. You will need to contact your advising center to make your individual appointment. If you are admitted to UNCG after the close of ARA, you will be offered an advising time during SOAR.   Please remember that although ARA is available before your SOAR session, you will still be required to attend SOAR.

How do I know who my advisor is?

Check out the link provided below to get in touch with your major department.  You will need to contact them to set up your ARA.

Helpful Tips!

Quotes from current Adult and Transfer students:
"The best advice I got at SOAR was to take the UNS 102 class for Adult & Transfer students.  University Studies has changed my life at UNCG.  I gained confidence, mentors, lifelong friends, and invaluable resource information from the experience."
 Donna Muth
Junior, adult & transfer student

“Everyone at SOAR was very friendly and helpful during a challenging transition period.  Their guidance made me feel confident and ready to start a new semester!”
Sherra Tysinger, adult student
