What are the June 2008 SOAR Dates for the Freshman Parent/Family Program?

At UNCG, we recognize that families are also in transition when their students begin college. An orientation to campus life at UNCG is important to help families support their students through the various changes and experiences they will encounter as well as important decisions they’ll need to make.

We offer a SOAR program designed especially for families to address questions and concerns specific to their needs. Family members will learn about the many services and opportunities available at UNCG and how they can assist their students in making a successful transition to college life.

During the Family Program you will have many opportunities such as:

  • Talking with representatives from UNCG offices including Financial Aid, Cashier’s & Student Accounts, Career Services, Dean of Students, and more
  • Touring a sample residence hall room, and learning more about Housing and Residence Life
  • Participating in question and answer sessions with UNCG faculty, staff, and the Spartan Orientation Staff
  • Discussing with academic advisors classroom prerequisites, general education requirements, and courses of study for students

Young Children and Friends

The transition to college is an exciting time for the entire family; however, we recommend that young children do not attend. Our program is not designed to accommodate the unique needs and interests of younger people. Also, students cannot bring friends to SOAR. There are no programs or housing options available for friends, and friends will not be able to accompany students throughout the program.
